Dealing with Trauma in Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders: Trauma Informed Care, Treatment, and Forensic Implications

Trauma is prevalent in the lives of adults with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). As a result, routine screening for trauma essential especially when autism-related symptoms are heightened or violence exhibited. Case studies and empirical analyses individuals ASD have indicated that traditional Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as well PTSD characterized by hyperarousal, mood disorders been diagnosed. After identified changes functioning assessed, safety plan, effective secure care management, behavioral support planning, trauma-informed care, treatment important areas to address. Guidelines sensitive needs proper all these forensic will be discussed. Recommendations future research also presented.
